Common use
Revatio is medication used for treatment of pulmonary hypertension (an increase in blood pressure in the pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein, or pulmonary capillaries, together known as the lung vasculature, leading to shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, and other symptoms)in order to improve exercise ability. The drug relaxes blood vessels which are able to transfer more blood and oxygen reducing pulmonary blood pressure. Its active substance is sildenafil, the same as in Viagra. That is why Revatio can be used in treatment of men's health.
Dosage and direction
Take one Revatio tablet of 20 mg three times a day with or without food. Each dose should be divided by 4-6 hours. Regular intakes of the medication separated by equal time periods are preferable.
Precautions
Before to take Revatio notify your doctor if you have in your history such diseases as heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeat, or chest pain (angina), high or low blood pressure, blood vessel disorders, problems with blood circulation, retinitis pigmentosa, disease of liver or kidney, deformation of the penis, sickle cell anemia, porphyria or cancer of the blood cells or bone marrow, stomach ulcers or stomach bleeding. Pulmonary vasodilators as Revatio may significantly worsen the cardiovascular status of patients with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease.
Contraindications
Revatio is contraindicated in children younger than 12 y.o., in patients who are taking any medications which contain organic nitrates and ones how are hypersensitive to the medication and its components.
Possible side effect
Revatio is mostly well tolerated but side effects may occur as fever, flushing, headache, muscle aches, nasal infection, nosebleeds, shortness of breath, sleeplessness, sinus infection, upset stomach. In case of serious and persisting adverse effects call your doctor as you may need immediate medical help.
Drug interaction
Revatio should not be co-administered with any drugs which contain sildenafil (Viagra, Kamagra), organic nitrates, antifungal drugs such as ketoconazole and itraconazole Ritonavir (an anti-HIV drug). Inform your doctor about all medications and herbal products you are taking and especially about alpha-blockers such as doxazosin, barbiturates, Bosentan, Carbamazepine, Rifabutin, Rifampin, Phenytoin, vitamin K antagonists as correction of your Revatio dose may be needed.
Missed Dose
If you missed a dose take it as soon as you remember, if it is almost time of your next dose just skip it and return to your regular schedule. Do not try to make up the missed dose by taking two doses at once.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose are similar to those seen at lower doses but rates and severities are increased. If you suppose that took too much of this medication you should seek for immediate medical help.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 15-30 C (59-86 F) away from children, pets, moisture and sunlight.
